From First Presbyterian Church
Thank You
What a caring church family we have at First Presbyterian Church! We have appreciated the many prayers, food and words of encouragement while Gene is recuperating from surgery. Thanks be to God and to you – His church!
Sharon & Gene Ringsdorf
7th/8th Movie Theater Outing
All rising Middle School students are invited to join us for a night at the movies on July 23rd (not this week, as was announced in worship). We will meet at Great Lakes Cinema 7 for a showing of Dreamworks’ new movie Minions at 7:20pm.
No RSVP is necessary and the cost is $10, which includes movie and snack.
High School Star Wars Marathon
Star What? if you want to catch up on your Star Wars history (and you should with the new movie coming soon) you’re invited to come to Pastor Michael’s house for a Star Wars marathon on July 30th. We will watch episodes four through six back to back starting at 4pm and ending about 11pm. All rising high school students and friends are invited and there is no registration cost. Think you have what it takes to be a jedi? If so, “may the force be with you.”
Meals on Wheels
In August our church will deliver meals to community shut-ins. Delivering Meals-On-Wheels takes about 30-45 minutes. You may sign up for any amount of days. Maybe you prefer one day a week, for instance every Monday, or every day for a week or different days during the month.
Substitutes are available so don’t let the fact that you are going to be gone one time stop you from signing up. You pick up the meals at the hospital kitchen at 11:00am. This usually is done with a partner to make the job fun and faster. Meals are delivered every day of the week except Sunday.
Delivering Meals-On-Wheels to our community shut-ins is a rewarding experience and you will be glad you took part in it.
A calendar is placed on an easel in the Narthex for you to sign up. If you have any questions please contact Milt Nolting at 336-4336.
Gobble! Gobble! TURKEY SUPPER IS ON THE HORIZON!
At the present time, Marilyn and Ray Miller will be the chairpersons in charge of the supper this year, but we do need to fill the position of co-chairs, as impending health issues are preventing Sharon Caskey from continuing in that capacity. Co-chairs would be in an assisting position this year to Marilyn and Ray, and then move into the head position the following year. We ask that you please give some thought to helping us fill this position quickly.
Please contact Charlene Radcliffe (330-6668) or Cheri at the church office (336-1649) if you have any questions regarding the turkey supper or to volunteer to be the co-chairs.
Greeter/Usher (s) Needed
The Reforming (2nd) Service is in need of Greeters/Ushers from July 26th and beyond. Please contact Bob Peterson or the office if you can assist.
VBS 2015 “Power Up”
This year’s 2015 VBS “Power Up” celebrates the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives and will be held from August 3rd-7th. Look for a link to the registration in next week’s update!
If you are interested in helping, please contact Michael at michael@fpcspiritlake.org or 336-1649. The “Snack List” is located by the table in the narthex and ready for you to sign up.
The Garden at the Church
Along with the rain and the beautiful sunshine comes weeds!!!
A “weekly weeding” has begun, each Wednesday at 7pm. Grab your hoe and come join the fun.
Loveall 25th Wedding Anniversary Reception
Clint and Jane Loveall will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in July. The Session has scheduled an anniversary reception during fellowship time on Sunday, July 26 to allow the congregation to celebrate with them. Those attending the reception will have the opportunity to share congratulatory words and/or bring an anniversary card. Please mark your calendars and join us for this joyous celebration.
The Next POET Dinner Event
The Spencer Dream Center will be holding a pasta night for us on Friday, July 31st. At 6:45pm they are going to share with us about the ministries that are happening there. Dinner will be served between 7 and 7:15pm. For people that are unaware of the Dream Center, it is in the old Hotel building in Spencer.
Pie Servers Needed at Okoboji Bible Conference
The 81st Okoboji Bible Conference will be here before we know it! Conference dates are Aug 1-9th. Each evening of Conference pie is served following the service. They supply the pie, but are wondering if two more people representing First Presbyterian Church would be willing to volunteer to cut and serve it Sunday, August 2nd? We ask that you arrive at the Fellowship Center on our Conference grounds at 6:15 pm. You may attend the service at 7:15 and leave during the last prayer at its conclusion to serve the pie. You should be finished by 10:00 pm. If you are interested in helping us, please contact the church office at 336-1649.
