It’s Officer Nominating Time
Once again, we are starting our annual quest to find a few good men and women who feel called by God to serve as leaders in this congregation. Nominations are being taken for 2019’s new class of Elders and Deacons. To learn more about the nominations process or to nominate someone go to our website.
Thank You
Thank you for all the prayers, meals, cards and especially the fellowship we received while I am recuperating from the broken bone in my leg. You are all so special and appreciated.

Pastor Appreciation
On behalf of the Session, we are extending an invitation to join in celebrating Pastor Clint and Jane, Pastor Michael and Rachelle and their families. We will be honoring them during coffee time on Sunday, October 28th in the fellowship hall. Thank you.
Upper Des Moines Opportunity Food Pantry
The congregations of our county take turns supporting the Upper Des Moines Opportunity Food Pantry. Long ago it was decided by the churches that the county would be best served by having this pantry. Our congregation has the opportunity to provide to the pantry for the months of April and October. Please consider donating your items during the month of October. Items may be placed in the wagon in the Narthex. Monetary gifts are welcome as well.
Operation Christmas Child is so much more than delighting a child in need with a simple gift. In the hands of local churches, every gift-filled shoebox is a powerful tool for evangelism and discipleship – transforming the lives of children and their families around the world through the Good News of Jesus Christ! After receiving shoebox gifts, boys and girls are invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, our 12-lesson discipleship program where children learn what it means to faithfully follow Christ and share their faith with others.
Please consider packing a shoebox this fall. Pick up a pre-printed shoebox and a brochure from the library window. All shoebox gifts are due back to the church by Sunday, November 11th.
Football Breakfasts
Again this year, First Presbyterian Church will be hosting breakfast and team devotionals on varsity game days. This has been a great experience for us and we are thankful for the opportunity to welcome the team. The numbers have grown steadily and we are regularly serving well over 70 young men at each meal. In order to keep up with the demand, we need your help. This can involve donating food, cooking, serving, or coordinating volunteers. If you are interested in being a part of a breakfast team, call 336-1649, check the sign-up sheet in the narthex or sign up on our website at www.fpcspiritlake.org/football
Sunday Morning Adult Ed
The Book of Genesis: A look at where it all began
Join us as we begin working our way through the first, and perhaps most significant, book in the Old Testament. We will journey together through Genesis exploring what it says about God, Nature, people, and our world and we will examine the key players in the earliest history of people interacting with God. Bring your Bible and your questions as we discover what Scripture does and doesn’t teach about our origins and our existence.
Reforming (2nd) Service Ushers/Greeters Needed
We are in need of Ushers/Greeters for our 2nd Service. Responsibilities include distributing bulletins and greeting worshippers at the center sanctuary doors as well as taking a head count of worshippers (including praise and worship team and those in the nursery. A sign-up sheet is located in the narthex. Sign up for one week or whatever works with your schedule.
Missing Your Pans and Bowls??
With our Soup & Pie Supper right around the corner, we need lots of space in the kitchen. Please stop by the Kitchen to see if your pan or bowl is here. Thank you!!
New Member Recognition
We have set our “New Member” Recognition for Sunday, November 4th. For those of you still in the decision making process, the Membership Committee wants you to know that there is still time to join. If you are interested, please stop in at the church office and we will provide you with a Personal Information Sheet to complete and return. We also ask you to provide us with a picture of your family, either by email or photograph, to post on our bulletin board. Thank you for considering membership at First Presbyterian. We look forward to having you become a part of our church family.
