All About VBS
Registration:
Registration/check-in begins at 8:15am on Monday, June 9th, in the Fellowship Hall on the north end of the building. This will be your opportunity to register if you haven’t, update any emergency contact info, pay if you still need to ($5 per child, up to $20 per family), and acquaint yourself with the church building. We will kick off VBS starting at 8:30 in the sanctuary, so please bring your child there after you have finished the registration process. Also note that friends are welcome! If your child would like to bring a friend along any day or every day, encourage them to do so!
Daily Check-in:
Tuesday through Thursday mornings, you can check your child in at the table directly in front of the sanctuary (located in the center of the building) at 8:30am, and then lead them into the sanctuary where there will be assigned color-coded rows according to age group. Please do not drop your child off before 8:30, as we will not be prepared for them yet.
Daily Pickup:
Pickup is at 11:30am. Please come to the same place you checked your child in (in front of the sanctuary). We will finish music time at 11:30, at which time you may enter the sanctuary and check your child out with their shepherds. We will not release your child to anyone other than the people designated during registration, unless we have been notified ahead of time. You can notify us of changes by calling the church office (712-336-1649) or during check-in that morning.
5th/6th grades:
Our 5th and 6th graders will be participating in VBS with some extra mission activities and fun built in! On Monday, the group will put together blessing bags for our high school youth to take with them on their mission trip to Florida. On Tuesday, they will visit Kaden’s Kloset at Good News Church in Okoboji to learn about and serve in this important ministry serving families with foster children in the area. On Thursday, they will go to Treasure Village for mini golf and ice cream. Friends are welcome for any or all days!
Mission Project/Offering:
Each year we select a mission project for the VBS kids to engage with, and we alternate between local and global missions to emphasize that we are the hands and feet of Jesus in our homes and throughout the world. This year we are partnering with Living Waters for the World to bring clean water and health to kids just like ours in a rural school called Plan de Amayo in El Salvador. Our goal is to raise $500 dollars to purchase the necessary parts for this system. We will have a table with a jar located in the lobby next to the sanctuary doors. Each day your child brings any size financial donation, big or small, he or she will be able to put his or her name in for our prize drawing, which will take place at our program on Thursday.
Program and Lunch on Thursday:
We would like to invite you to join us at 11:30am on Thursday morning in the sanctuary for our end of VBS program. This will be an opportunity to get to watch your child enjoy the music they have been grooving to this week and hear a little about what they learned. We will also do our offering prize drawing. Following the program, at 12:00pm, you are invited to a picnic lunch in the Fellowship Hall and outside on the playground. Lunch is at no charge, though a freewill offering basket will be available.
Behavior Reminders:
As you prepare for the week ahead, please remind your children of basic behavior expectations. We understand that not everyone is going to enjoy everything we do, but we have tried to provide a curriculum that has a variety of activities so there is something for everyone. We ask that the children respect the building and show respect to the volunteers who have generously given of their time to make this a good experience. If we are having a hard time with a child’s behavior and all appropriate measures to redirect him or her have been taken without success, we will call the emergency contact listed and ask that your child be picked up and discuss with you what necessary measures should be taken for the remainder of the week. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!
